About Hard OLED and Incell LCD

• Hard OLED is an emissive organic LED panel with a rigid substrate. There is no backlight, so black pixels are genuinely off and contrast is effectively infinite. Colour rendering is comparable to the factory panel and it is the more affordable of the two OLED build types. Because the substrate is rigid rather than flexible, it absorbs less direct shock — if you drop your phone often, a Soft OLED panel tolerates more.
• Incell LCD — used for the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 versions — is the same panel technology those two phones shipped with. The touch layer is built into the cell rather than sitting on top, which is where the name comes from. Because the XR and 11 use an LCD panel from the factory, there is no OLED replacement for them, and any listing that promises one is not describing the same part.
• Hard OLED panels are slightly thicker than the factory panel and the bezel outline is marginally wider, so the visible image area is very slightly smaller. This is normal for this panel type.
• Clean the flex cable and connector with isopropyl alcohol before fitting, confirm the connector is fully seated, and disconnect the battery before starting.
• Move the earpiece speaker and front camera from your old screen, and transfer the touch IC. Take care not to crease either ribbon.
• Test display, touch, Face ID and brightness before you press the assembly home. Once fitted, the part can no longer be returned.

iPhone X – 13 Screen FAQs

Is my version OLED or LCD?
It depends on the model you select. Hard OLED: iPhone X, XS, XS Max, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, 12, 12 Pro, 12 mini, 12 Pro Max and 13. Incell LCD: iPhone XR and iPhone 11 only. The XR and 11 left the factory with LCD panels, so no OLED replacement exists for them — if you are buying for one of those two phones, expect an Incell LCD panel, and the picture will behave the way an LCD does.

What is the difference between Hard OLED and Soft OLED?
The substrate. Hard OLED is rigid, which makes it the more affordable option and gives excellent brightness and colour, but it absorbs less impact. Soft OLED uses a flexible substrate that tolerates drops better, matches the factory thickness more closely, and costs more. Both are OLED and both are self-emissive — the difference is durability and price, not the way the picture is produced.

Does Face ID still work after the screen is replaced?
Yes, provided you move the old earpiece and front camera assembly across — the Face ID components live in that assembly, not in the panel itself. iPhones from the X onwards have no fingerprint sensor: Face ID is the only biometric unlock, and it keeps working once that camera and sensor hardware is fitted to the new screen.

What is the touch IC, and do I really need to transfer it?
The touch IC is a small chip on the screen flex that calibrates touch for your specific device. It is not supplied with the panel, so it has to be moved across from your old screen — which this listing supports on every version. Your repair technician will do this as part of the job; it is one of the reasons an iPhone screen replacement is not a straight swap.
